From Sea to Shore: The Surprising Reach of Reverse Osmosis Systems

As I sit down to reflect on the feedback and takeaways from my last blog on reverse osmosis systems, I am humbled as well as excited by the response it generated. While my initial aim was to shed light on how this technology can provide a solution to water production challenges across the broader maritime sector, I never anticipated the range of individuals and different sectors it would resonate with – from across every continent on our planet.

What has struck me the most is the realisation that many people, regardless of their industry, have often not delved deep into the subject of water production through the lenses of either carbon emissions or cost efficiency. Had I not stumbled across it myself, it most probably wouldn’t have entered my mind either. It became apparent through the conversations sparked that there exists a gap in understanding the potential of Pomar’s reverse osmosis systems to address these crucial issues.

A common misconception that emerged from the feedback was the belief that reverse osmosis is an expensive method of water production. It seems that this perception (unconscious bias?) has deterred many from exploring it further – yet the facts mean it should be considered as low hanging fruit on the decarb and cost reduction agenda. In a time where industry focus has predominantly been on voyage optimisation, innovative technologies like Air Lubrication and Rotor Sails, as well as Vessel Connectivity - water production has unfortunately been overlooked or, at best, pushed down the priority list.

However, what excites me the most is the opportunity to change this narrative. Through further discussions and presentations, I've had the chance to share the compelling facts and figures that reverse osmosis represents. The surprise and enthusiasm expressed by those I've spoken to on Teams calls reaffirm my belief in the change potential of this technology.

So, to all those who have shown interest and to those who may have stumbled upon this blog, I extend an invitation. Let's connect, let's delve deeper into the world of reverse osmosis systems, and let's explore how they can revolutionise water production in your sector, whether maritime, civil or other. Reach out to me to arrange a call, and together, let's uncover the possibilities that lie within this innovative solution – for any or all production quantities that you may be interested in.

I look forward to our conversation and the opportunity to share insights that could potentially reshape the way we think about water production and sustainability.
