Beaufort 12

Because it is the global circulatory system for pretty much everything produced and consumed,  Shipping is hitting the headlines again – for economic reasons that will make a blocked Suez Canal feel like a routine dental check-up.

To many, globalisation came to the fore in the late 1990s. Some credible strategists would claim the platform for it was actually built after WWII (ones with longer memories may sight the Royal Navy’s move from coal to oil in 1914 as the tipping point). Up to this point in time, nations were comparably self-sufficient – it now looks like they will have to get back to old ways of feeding and heating themselves. The interdependencies that exist across the entire system are being brutally exposed. Security of supply is displacing most other agenda for governments, and whether they had factored-in the reactions across MNC’s to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine will continue to generate much opinion on news channels & social media.

Consensus from Stonefort’s clients is that stormier than ever seas lie ahead, and we don’t disagree. Part way through the last black swan event (the Pandemic), we brought our varied skills and experiences to help many clients navigate the seas in all manner of ways – and we are doing the same again in the face of an even more challenging outlook.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you feel the need for additional thought-partnership at these most difficult of times.
